Almost 50% of New Year's resolutions are based on losing weight. However, trying to find out how to lose weight and keep it off can see many resolutions not even make it into February.

The HCG diet is as effective as it is extreme. While it might not be for the faint-hearted, it promises to smash your weight loss goals quicker than most other diet plans.

If you’re considering the HCG diet then this HCG diet checklist will give you everything you need to know before you get started. Let’s dive right in.

HCG Diet Supplies

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a hormone that is naturally produced by pregnant women. It turns out that HCG can help you burn fat, reset your metabolism, and keep away hunger cravings.

The biggest part of the HCG diet is the HCG injections. This is something you can do at home. To be able to safely inject yourself with HCG you’ll need the following:

  • HCG
  • Intramuscular or subcutaneous injection syringes
  • Large mixing syringe & needle
  • Sterile capped vial
  • Bacteriostatic water
  • Alcohol wipes

Before deciding on the dose of HCG you’ll be using it is important to discuss this with your healthcare provider. They will be able to help you find the best HCG dose for you, usually between 125 and 200 iu's (international units) per day.

HCG can be injected subcutaneously or intramuscularly, so it's important to decide which is right for you. HCG is most commonly injected intramuscularly unless the individual has too much body fat and it is not possible to inject directly into the muscle. This is something that you should also discuss with your healthcare provider.

Bacteriostatic water is used to dilute the HCG before the injection. It also stops bacteria from growing in the solution, and one vial can be used multiple times up to 28 days because of this.

You can either purchase all of the supplies individually, or once you have your HCG you can buy a complete mixing kit with everything you need.

What to Eat

The HCG diet requires you to restrict your calorie intake to 500 calories a day. This might seem intimidating at first, but once you establish what you can and cannot eat, it’s fairly straightforward.

You’ll need to drink plenty of water and the only other drinks you should have are unsweetened tea and black coffee. If you don’t like unsweetened tea or black coffee, you’ll need to invest in some calorie-free sweeteners such as stevia.

The HCG diet focuses mainly on protein. You’ll want to focus on lean meats such as chicken breast, white fish, veal, and shrimp. You can enjoy other meats, but be sure to remove the fat before eating.

Low-carb vegetables will be your main source of nutrients. Remember that you won’t be able to add things like dressings or butter to them. The most nutrient-dense low-carb vegetables include spinach, tomatoes, and asparagus.

What Not to Eat

Carbohydrates are extremely limited, and one piece of melba toast is your entire carbohydrate allowance for one day. Avoid refined carbohydrates and any foods with added sugar. You should also avoid any foods that are naturally high in sugars or fats such as nuts, avocados, pears, bananas, or grapes.

Stick to This HCG Diet Checklist

The HCG diet can be intimidating at first, but once you start to follow this HCG diet checklist it will become routine. Once your body adjusts to just 500 calories a day you’re well on your way. Remember, it’s only for 20 days, you can do it!
