Are you looking to start the HCG diet, but are a little unsure of what to expect?

In order to follow the HCG diet successfully, it's imperative that you stick to eating a low-calorie diet (no more than 500 calories per day), and that you eat the right kind of calories.

If you're feeling a bit overwhelmed about what you should and shouldn't eat on this diet, then you've come to the right place.

Check out this HCG diet menu guide to learn what your daily eating schedule will look like.

HCG Approved Foods

Before we dive into what a typical day will look like for an HCG dieter, let's first talk about the different HCG-approved foods.

HCG Approved Proteins

You're allowed to consume 200 grams of protein per day on the HCG diet. However, you're only allowed to consume 100 grams at each meal. Also, when cooking protein, make sure you trim the fat and you don't cook anything on the bone.

Here are the approved proteins you can eat:

  • Lobster
  • Shrimp
  • Crab
  • White fish
  • Extra-lean beef
  • Egg whites
  • Chicken
  • Scallops
  • Buffalo

HCG Approved Vegetables

Regardless of if you're following phase 2 of the diet, vegetables should be on your plate. However, you should only have one cup of vegetables per meal, for a total of two cups per day.

Here are the vegetables you can eat:

  • Broccoli
  • Tomatoes
  • Asparagus
  • Red radishes
  • Shallots
  • Cabbage
  • Green salad
  • Mixed greens
  • Beet greens
  • Cucumbers
  • Celery
  • Fennel
  • Chard
  • Spinach
  • Cauliflower
  • Onions

HCG Approved Fruit

Because a lot of fruits contain a high amount of (natural) sugar, there are many that are restricted on the HCG diet.

Here are the fruits you can eat:

  • Oranges
  • Lemons
  • Apple
  • Grapefruit
  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Strawberries

Other Approved Foods

In addition to all the above, here are some other approved foods on the HCG diet:

  • Mustard powder
  • Green tea
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Stevia
  • Salt, pepper, and other natural spices
  • Herbal tea
  • Bragg's amino acids
  • Coffee

Also, keep in mind that at no time should you cook with butter, oil, or dressing when on the HCG diet. And, you should avoid seasoning mixes, as these often contain added sugar and excess salt.
